Not again! Ducati is once again recalling certain motorcycles for a problem with the machine’s side stand. This time around, Ducati North America is recalling certain 2018 through 2020 XDiavel and XDiavel S models because the side stand retaining spring pin may break on those machines. Ducati has previously recalled the XDiavel and its Hypermotard model for similar sidestand problems.

Ducati’s Part 573 Safety Recall Report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says 842 or about 2 percent of these US model motorcycles may be affected.

In its report, Ducati says:

“On September 14, 2022, Ducati Motor Holding received the first report from the network about a motorcycle with the side stand springs retaining pin on the side stand bracket broken with consequential engine stalling.”

“The case has been escalated to the Ducati Motor Holding’s pre-internal safety commission. Warranty and customer contact records were reviewed and analysed. Ducati Motor Holding became aware of a total of 18 reports about motorcycles with the side stand springs retaining pin on the side stand bracket broken.”

Then, describing the safety risk, Ducati says:

“If the side stand opens during the motorcycle riding, the side stand sensor will switch off the motorbike engine increasing the risk of crash and injury.”

All of the affected motorcycles were produced between June 8, 2017, and June 24, 2020. The motorcycles affected by this recall are as follows:

VIN Range

Affected motorcycles fall into the following VIN ranges:

Begin: ZDM13BKW3JB008130 End: ZDM13BKW9LB011620 (not sequential)

Planned dealer notification: September 12 through June September 19, 2023Planned customer notification: October 3 through October 10, 2023

Owners should take their motorcycle to a Ducati dealer who will install a new side stand bracket free of charge. Ducati says the replacement bracket has a retaining pin made with more robust material.
